Event Information

What are we raising money for?

Seattle Public Schools is facing an enormous budget shortfall and limited funding for the programs we know our students need. The WSHS PTSA is dedicated to funding the academic and classroom support we have long taken for granted at West Seattle High School. Until 2023, our students benefited from a levy that funded a robust tutoring program, including school-day, after-school, and Saturday tutoring. This year, we have been able, through your generous donations, to fund:

  • Monthly staffed Saturday Study Hall that benefits an average of 100 students each session
  • Classroom supply needs
  • Student-led initiatives

We hope to be able to fund these needs again this year. To do that, we are relying on your generosity once again.

Event Route

Participants will enjoy a beautiful five-kilometer course along Alki Avenue SW. The course begins at the Alki Bath House (map) and proceeds east along Alki Avenue SW. At Anchor Park, runners return to the starting point. This is a USATF-certified course.

Race Day Schedule

  • 8:30-9:15 am: Day-of-event registration
  • 9:10 am: Pre-race warm-up
  • 9:30 am: 5K Run/Walk starts
  • 8:30 to 11:30 am: Visit our sponsor booths and enjoy student music

Gear Check

Both Alki and Harbor Avenues will be closed to traffic starting at 8:00 a.m. on the morning of the event. Because parking is always challenging at Alki Beach, please plan to carpool, take the bus, have someone drop you off, or arrive early to allow time for parking and walking to the event starting point.

Parking

Gear check is available. To help us preserve resources, please bring your items in a bag, backpack, or other enclosure. To protect your belongings, we will mark your item with your bib number and only the person wearing the bib with the matching number can retrieve the item.  Please do not leave valuables.

Jogging Strollers? Dogs? Skates? Scooters?

Strollers and leased dogs are permitted, but we ask that you start at the back of the race pack and keep clear of the runners. Please keep control of your dog and be respectful of other participants. Woof! For the safety of everyone, this event is for runners, joggers and walkers. Therefore, no skates, skooters, skateboards or hover boards are permitted.

Prizes

The top Student male and female finishers and top Adult male and female finishers will be awarded prizes.

Walk or Run?

This is a family, friendly run/walk open to everyone. We encourage all participants and you may walk, skip, or jog along the beautiful Alki Beach course. We request that walkers start at the back of the race.
